Ariel Haubner

I am a lifelong learner, ever enamored by the world around me.  My work in life is cultivating connection and growth. I am lucky enough to do that through music, movement, and coaching.

Cello

I grew up surrounded by music. My Mother made sure music was a part of our family culture. She connected me and my siblings to wonderful mentors, and musical communities, engaging us in church choirs, music lessons, and summer camps. From my own experience I can say, Music Moms change lives.

At Utah State University, I studied cello performance with the incredible Fry Street Quartet, soaking up the wisdom of my teacher Anne Francis Bayless. During my time at USU I fell in love with ensemble playing, and the magic that is connecting with others through music. My time in school was spent practicing, teaching, and working towards graduate studies.

That work took me to Cleveland, Ohio, for post-graduate work at The Cleveland Institute of Music. While at CIM I dove deeper into my teaching skills in the Suzuki Pedagogy Program, and began my love affair with the importance of mental training in music studies.

After moving back to Utah, I developed a studio in Salt Lake City, and have found so much fulfillment in working with young, motivated cellists. I never thought I would find my way to full-time teaching; yet, here I am. So delighted by the students I spend my days with.

Coaching

As a type A personality, I have often found myself working harder, rather than smarter towards my goals. Many times I wound up in the same place I began, frustrated and overwhelmed.

My own struggles have taught me to approach myself with greater kindness, clarity, and integrity, so I could reach my goals without beating myself up. Turns out, growth can be delightful; goals can be exciting and compelling.

Along my journey, I received help from many friends and mentors.  If I didn’t know how to do something, I found someone who COULD. I am eternally grateful for these lights on my path, and the way they guided me.

You too, deserve support. Building a beautiful music studio, getting to know yourself, and growing towards your dreams doesn’t have to be drudgery. I promise.

Yoga

Yoga has always been part of my life. In fact, I spent several years as a yoga instructor during my college career. I also taught music at the Gifted School of Music here in Salt Lake City. I wanted to bring the grounding movement of yoga to the world of music. Now I am expanding that reach, creating an online yoga space for musicians.

My yoga practice has taught me so much about myself. It has also given me the gift of connection. Connection of the breath, body and mind while I create music. As I become one with my body, I become one with music as well.

I created Music from the Mat as a space for musicians to cultivate this connection for themselves, to fill in this important element of cross training in their musical studies.
